No, I am still not interested in joining AARP! Yes, I will gladly take the senior discount.
Malia and I were in a Columbia outlet store and I was buying a pair of hiking shoes a couple of years ago. The store was offering an additional discount for people over 55. As I checked out, I asked the young girl checking us out if she needed to see my ID so I could get the extra discount? To which she replied, “I already gave it to you.” Argh!
So, this is 60! Sixty? The decade of purpose. My 20’s represented a naively too confident person. My 30’s , selfish and broken. My 40’s a man finding my Lord and Savior. My 50’s a decade of introspection, trial, error and joy. So much joy. And now, my 60’s.
A beautiful friend of Megan Mullins and mine came up to me at church a couple of weeks ago and said “Myron, did you know that the 60’s are the decade of greatest influence and impact?” Find friends like Darcy Hoffman. The decade of our greatest impact. Please Lord, use me in this decade to provide courage by encouraging. To empower by representing the power of experience. To be purposeful in helping others find their purpose. To be steady as I introduce steadfastness into the lives of men who desire to be your men.
So today as I start my 7th decade, I am a grateful man, consumed by joy, loved beyond reason by a woman too wonderful to adequately describe. Blessed with children who keep me young and teach me language, fashion and trends that my ‘old’ friends don’t know. I start my 7th decade profoundly thankful for every person that God has blessed me with in my life. For every mentor and extended parent who has helped raise me, guide me, pray for me, encourage me, correct me and through it all, love me. Thank you. With tears of gratitude, thank you.
So here I sit, a 60 year young man. I am only here because the Father was and is with me. I sit here ready for a new decade where my desire to love, to serve, to guide, to listen, to encourage, to expand is all consuming. From age 20 to age 60 is a blur and a blink. I am thankful and committed to apply the life experiences that God has allowed me to help and encourage those that are placed in my path. Every person has a story and immeasurable value assigned by the Father in Heaven. You are precious to the King and you have infinite value.
I love each of you reading my ramblings and recollections. I thank you for your contribution to the beautiful tapestry of color and content that is my life. Megan, you are joy in human form and other than salvation, my greatest gift in this life. I am blessed beyond blessed and have joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart. Down in my heart to stay.
“But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24 NLT
Thank you for the gift of your life in my life.
I’ve got this.
